At the end of our September conversation, Lichtman made another call: That if elected, Trump would eventually be impeached by a Republican Congress that would prefer a President Mike Pence — someone who establishment Republicans know and trust.

“I’m going to make another prediction,” he said. “This one is not based on a system, it’s just my gut. They don’t want Trump as president, because they can’t control him. He’s unpredictable. They’d love to have Pence — an absolutely down the line, conservative, controllable Republican. And I’m quite certain Trump will give someone grounds for impeachment, either by doing something that endangers national security or because it helps his pocketbook.”

So while Republican voters clearly came home before Nov. 8 — network exit polls show 90 percent of GOP voters cast ballots for Trump — it’s less clear that the party leadership is on board. (Lichtman actually isn’t the only person to predict a Trump impeachment; this morning, the New York Times’s David Brooks suggested a Trump impeachment or resignation was “probably” in the cards sometime within the next year.)

We’re told to accept the results of an election in which 7 million more people voted against Trump than for him. We’re told to sit down by people who were prepared to take to the street with guns if their man didn’t win. Trump said in 2012 that the Electoral College is ridiculous and should not install the guy with fewer votes. This year, he said the election was rigged. Maybe he was right. How does a guy hated by numerous Republicans, including the entire state of Utah, get more votes than Romney or DUHbya. How? Setting aside the chance the vote was diddled (notice how he played everyone into insisting that wasn’t possible), he lost the popular vote. I’ll graciously accept him when the radical wrong / alt-smart kisses Obama’s ass. They are a dwindling minority that should not impose on us an incompetent narcissist for president at this crucial moment.

Don’t *save* your energy – spend it putting pressure on the Electoral College and your state legislature.

There is no law that requires the presidential administration to hold daily briefings, none that guarantees media access to the White House. Despite losing the popular vote, Trump has secured as much power as any American leader in recent history. The Republican Party controls both houses of Congress. There is a vacancy on the Supreme Court. The country is at war ….

Republican politicians have fallen into line. Conservative pundits who broke ranks during the campaign will return to the fold. Democrats in Congress will begin to make the case for cooperation, for the sake of getting anything done—or at least, they will say, minimizing the damage.

The idea of electors reversing their vote is rarely discussed — and was most recently bandied about after the incredibly close 2000 election in which George Bush narrowly beat Al Gore. And electors going “faithless” is exceedingly rare.

The electoral college does not vote until December 19th. We have 40 days.

As it currently stands, Hillary Clinton is projected to receive 232 votes. Trump is projected to win 306. This means that 37 votes need to be taken away from Trump to bring him down to 269. Hillary Clinton needs 38 votes ADDED to win 270.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. Donald Trump’s authoritarian tendencies demand consideration for his qualifications to serve as President.

Affecting FUTURE elections, not this one:

There is a realistic path to making an end-run around the Electoral College for the 2020 elections. This is because we don’t need a constitutional amendment to stop using the Electoral College. We only need the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact:

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among several U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their respective electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed to ensure that the candidate who wins the most popular votes is elected president, and it will come into effect only when it will guarantee that outcome.[2][3] As of 2016, it has been joined by ten states and the District of Columbia; their 165 combined electoral votes amount to 30.7% of the total Electoral College vote, and 61.1% of the 270 votes needed for it to have legal force.

If states and territories totaling at least 270 electoral votes pass laws joining the National Popular Vote Compact, then the next presidential election will be determined by the winner of the national popular vote. We are already up to 165.

How did we let Trump get away with this? He lied about his reasons but ultimately there was no threat that could compel him to release his tax returns. There is ONE threat now: Trump cannot become President without releasing his tax returns. Simple. Clear. No paperwork, no job.

Americans have a right to know who the King of Debt owes money to. We have a right to know how he has played the tax code. We have a right to know if he is at all charitable. We have a right to know which companies and countries will profit from his actions. We have a right to know how he profits from his actions. We have that right — it’s not radical, it’s not unreasonable, it’s not unprecedented, it’s not left nor right, it’s not sour-grapes. No paperwork, no job.

Trump will ignore this or tweet something ridiculous in response. His followers will rage at this temerity even though they harped endlessly on emails and unproved corruption. But someone can fix this.

Until this election cycle, there were still a few Republicans who put the nation ahead of their own interests. You can subpoena these records immediately. No paperwork, no job.

Russian hackers: Where are Trump’s returns?
Chinese hackers: Russia says you don’t know how to hack the IRS.
IRS employees: Sometimes, you have to blow the whistle to save the nation.
