Inception (3 stars)

2023-08-17: this review is 13 years old. Still valid, but I’ve written hundreds of posts since then. Please look around. Thanks.

Inception was OK. There were a couple of scenes that were spectacular in effect and vision. All the actors were good enough. I’m always happy to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

However, the soundtrack was dreadful: loud, ponderous, even pompous music pounding almost non-stop. Why? And why bother with a dream inside a dream inside a dream if two of them are taken up with chase sequences out of a Bond movie (well, only one of those rose to Bondian levels). When you have such an exciting notion as everyone in a dream instantly turning on invaders, why throw that away with militarization. Guns are stoopid, especially in dream-time. We’ve all seen the Matrix; don’t need to see it again. The movie should have been at least a half hour shorter.

Makes me want to see Dark City again – a far better movie.
