It is the\u00a0<\/span>\u201cpolitical technology\u201d<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0which swathes of the population have voted in effect to anoint a king in the belief it will amount to more\u00a0freedom. …\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath of such a seismic election, there is perhaps a tendency to paste one\u2019s own grievances or ideology on to an explanation for why it unfolded as it did. Having interviewed hundreds of American voters \u2013 and non-voters as well \u2013 I am confident there is no single explanation or answer.<\/span><\/p>\n
