{"id":6370,"date":"2013-08-23T15:41:25","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T21:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.edgewiseblog.com\/mjh\/?p=6370"},"modified":"2013-08-23T15:41:25","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T21:41:25","slug":"keep-your-eyes-on-alec-in-new-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edgewiseblog.com\/mjh\/loco\/keep-your-eyes-on-alec-in-new-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep your eyes on ALEC in New Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/civicpolicy.com\/journalwatch\/?p=6168\">ALEC Is in New Mexico, But Only Marginally in the Albuquerque Journal<\/a> <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong><i>By Denise Tessier<\/i><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>Because the Albuquerque Journal has the resources \u2013 a team of investigative reporters and excellent politics and government reporters \u2013 I have been waiting for the state\u2019s leading daily to produce a story explaining how many, if any, of New Mexico\u2019s legislators are under the influence of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alec.org\/\">American Legislative Exchange Committee<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p><font style=\"background-color: #ffc000\">ALEC trains state legislators and gives them boilerplate legislation to introduce in their states, furthering the national agenda of ALEC\u2019s corporate backers. <\/font>Read this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/161973\/koch-connection#\">story in The Nation<\/a> to learn about its connection to the Koch brothers. Last week, four legislators were \u201couted\u201d as supporters of this \u201cbill mill\u201d, but not by the Albuquerque Journal.\n<\/p>\n<p>The four published names came courtesy of local media newcomer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newmexicomercury.com\/\">New Mexico Mercury<\/a>, in a <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicomercury.com\/blog\/comments\/three_nm_legislators_outed_as_alec_members?utm_source=New+Mexico+Mercury&amp;utm_campaign=b6325b8666-mercury_weekly_stories_8_17_2013&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_f3c5bf5aa5-b6325b8666-83726097\">piece<\/a> written by Pat Davis, director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.progressnownm.org\/\">ProgressNow New Mexico<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>But according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prwatch.org\/\">Center for Media and Democracy<\/a>, the list of New Mexico supporters in the Legislature goes beyond four names.
