(The scoundrels are those who raise this \u201cconcern\u201d solely to suppress the vote.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/eugene-robinson-voter-fraud-is-an-issue-that-isnt\/2012\/09\/24\/7230f7d8-0675-11e2-afff-d6c7f20a83bf_story.html?wprss=rss_eugene-robinson\">Eugene Robinson: Voter fraud is an issue that isn\u2019t &#8211; The Washington Post<\/a> <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBut you need an ID to do a lot of things, like board a plane,\u201d advocates say. <font style=\"background-color: #ffc000\">Unlike commercial air travel, however, voting is a constitutionally protected right.<\/font> To infringe or abridge that right \u2014 for no demonstrable reason \u2014 should be considered a crime against democracy. \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Minorities, poor people and seniors are less likely than other Americans to have government-issued identification such as a driver\u2019s license \u2014 and more likely, for various reasons, to have difficulty obtaining an acceptable ID. They might live far from the nearest motor vehicles department office, for example, and lack transportation. In the case of some older African Americans born in the South under Jim Crow segregation, they might not even have a proper birth certificate of the kind needed to obtain a driver\u2019s license or state ID card. \u2026<\/p>\n<p>The problem in this country isn\u2019t too many people voting, it\u2019s too few. We should be making it easier for people to vote, not harder, and we shouldn\u2019t be imposing requirements that have the same effect as a poll tax.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/eugene-robinson-voter-fraud-is-an-issue-that-isnt\/2012\/09\/24\/7230f7d8-0675-11e2-afff-d6c7f20a83bf_story.html?wprss=rss_eugene-robinson\">Eugene Robinson: Voter fraud is an issue that isn\u2019t &#8211; The Washington Post<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In New Mexico, elderly Navajos are particularly unlikely to have IDs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exercise your right to vote!
