Bob Bennett (UT), who lost his seat to a far-right primary challenger after holding it for over a decade, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/on-air\/on-the-record\/transcript\/former-utah-senator-reflects-being-victim-tea-party-movement-its-impact-politics\">slammed the tea party<\/a> in an interview with Fox News host Greta Van Susteren Friday. Saying the tea party movement \u201ccost the Republicans control of the Senate,\u201d <font style=\"background-color: #ffc000\">Bennett warned Republicans to \u201c<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/146253-former-sen-bennett-gop-should-be-careful-before-nominating-tea-partier-for-president\"><font style=\"background-color: #ffc000\">be careful<\/font><\/a><font style=\"background-color: #ffc000\">\u201d about kowtowing to the narrow demands of the hard right when nominating a presidential candidate.<\/font> Bennett went on to note that the GOP has shifted far to the right from previous Republican presidential candidates like Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Ronald Reagan would probably not recognize the description of Ronald Regan that is coming out of a lot of the tea party blogs<\/strong>. \u2026 [H]<strong>e said something that would be absolutely anathema to many of the tea party people<\/strong> when he said it\u2019s better to get 80 percent of what you want than zero. And Reagan would compromise, Reagan would make deals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, as ThinkProgress has noted, the image of Reagan that many conservatives hold dear bears little resemblance to the actual man, who <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2011\/02\/05\/reagan-centennial\/\">did many things<\/a> these self-professed Reaganites would not like. Reagan raised taxes, increased government spending, and ballooned the size of government. And Reagan was <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2011\/02\/25\/flashback-reagan-union-right\/\">a staunch defender of unions<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2011\/02\/28\/bob-bennett-reagan-tea-party\/\">ThinkProgress \u00bb Former GOP Sen.
