She was hired to entertain, not to preach.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ronstadt Will Continue Praising Moore\" \n\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.rapidcityjournal.com\/articles\/2004\/07\/21\/ap\/entertainment\/d83v77q00.txt\">Ronstadt Will Continue Praising Moore<\/a> Rapid <\/p>\n<p>City Journal:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an election year,&#8221; she told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday. &#8220;I want people to get their head up out of their <\/p>\n<p>mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. &#8230; I&#8217;m not telling them how to vote. I&#8217;m saying, get information <\/p>\n<p>about the issues.&#8221; &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Ronstadt, 58, told the Times her remarks were &#8220;modest,&#8221; adding: <b>&#8220;They didn&#8217;t throw me out.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I <\/p>\n<p>didn&#8217;t even know there was trouble,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Those places operate like little city-states. They are all-powerful. And I had already <\/p>\n<p>said I never want to come back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Welcome to the Tucson Citizen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tucsoncitizen.com\/index.php?\n\npage=opinion&amp;story_id=072104op\">Our Opinion: Real desperado<\/a> Tucson Citizen<\/p>\n<p>The hotel-casino is a private entity; its managers <\/p>\n<p>can hire or remove whomever they choose.<\/p>\n<p>The booting of Ronstadt did not violate her right to free speech. But it did constitute <\/p>\n<p><b>one of the worst public relations moves imaginable<\/b>. People love or hate Moore, but almost everyone savors Ronstadt&#8217;s music. <b>A <\/p>\n<p>more circumspect reaction would have been wise.<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8221;Circumspect&#8221; sounds suspiciously French to the Radical Right.  <\/p>\n<p>mjh<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a title=\"The Corner on National Review Online\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/thecorner\/04_07_18_corner-\n\narchive.asp#036039\">The Corner on National Review Online<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My wife &amp; I were at the Linda Ronstadt performance in question, at <\/p>\n<p>the Aladdin in Las Vegas, and quite frankly, Aladdin President Bill Timmins&#8217; account of what happened is complete crap. There was mixed <\/p>\n<p>booing and cheering at Ronstadt&#8217;s pro-Michael Moore comment, and that was about the extent of the &#8220;bedlam&#8221; that supposedly broke out. <\/p>\n<p>&#8230; Frankly, my suspicion is that Timmins is way overdramatizing what happened, in order to justify giving Ronstadt the boot. It simply <\/p>\n<p>wasn&#8217;t that big a deal. After all, Lush Limbaugh calls Ronstadt &#8221;the 50-year-old hippie relic&#8221; (she&#8217;s 58 &#8212; Lush doesn&#8217;t care about <\/p>\n<p>accuracy) and a kook.<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting to note that this casino is in bankruptcy. If you&#8217;re looking for a buyer, it makes sense to <\/p>\n<p>appeal to the people with money.
