{"id":3076,"date":"2013-04-08T04:47:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-08T10:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.edgewiseblog.com\/mjh\/poems\/billy\/"},"modified":"2013-04-06T13:19:02","modified_gmt":"2013-04-06T19:19:02","slug":"billy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.edgewiseblog.com\/mjh\/poems\/2013-a-month-of-somedays\/billy\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It doesn\u2019t seem the least bit odd    <br \/>that all the members of the orchestra     <br \/>are dogs.     <br \/>Some in tuxedos,     <br \/>some in black gowns,     <br \/>sitting, waiting \u2014 good dogs! \u2014     <br \/>for the conductor     <br \/>to raise a long meaty bone.     <br \/>Some clear their throats,     <br \/>some drool,     <br \/>none look away for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t seem the least bit odd    <br \/>that everyone in the audience     <br \/>is in a tutu.     <br \/>Men and women dressed for the     <br \/>ballet, though this is a concert,     <br \/>each holding a pen and pad     <br \/>planning to pounce     <br \/>to snatch some new idea.     <br \/>As if Beethoven for Dogs     <br \/>weren\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t seem the least bit odd    <br \/>in the end     <br \/>when the conductor puts down his baton,     <br \/>most of the meat shaken off     <br \/>to the delight of the First Chair.     <br \/>He turns and bows     <br \/>and then I recognize him:     <br \/>the poet laureate,     <br \/>the old dog himself. <em><sub style=\"color: red\">mjh<\/sub><\/em><\/p>\n<p><small>8\/13\/02<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It doesn\u2019t seem the least bit odd that all the members of the orchestra are dogs.
