With Scott Brown\u2019s victory in the special Senate election in Massachusetts on Tuesday energizing conservatives<\/a> in the state, the Boston Globe reports<\/a> that \u201cseveral Tea Party activists are now considering candidacies.\u201d Yesterday, Brown endorsed<\/a> Boxford Republican Bill Hudak\u2019s campaign against Rep. John Tierney (D-MA).<\/p>\n

But Brown\u2019s first endorsement might backfire<\/a>. As Northeastern University journalism professor Dan Kennedy notes<\/a>, Hudak is a birther who once compared President Obama<\/a> to Osama bin Laden:<\/p>\n

Down the road at 165 Herrick Road, William and Angela Hudak have more of the same anti-Obama signs lined along the front of their property. One large, roughly 6-foot-by-4-foot sign stands back from the road, up against their house, with words \u2013 such as socialist, Marxist, and lazy<\/em> \u2013 surrounding the same picture of Obama dressed as Osama Bin Laden.<\/strong> […]<\/p>\n

Hudak asserts that Obama was not born in the United States but in Kenya, according to affidavits that he made available to the Tri-Town Transcript. He said that Obama has ties to the Muslim faith through an extremist cousin that is from Kenya.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a lot more going on here than anyone knows,\u201d Hudak said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Brown has already been criticized for inching towards the birther fringe<\/a> for speculating in 2008 that then-candidate Obama was born out of wedlock<\/a>. Brown refused to apologize<\/a> for his speculation when asked about it by ThinkProgress last week.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Gloucester Daily Times, Hudak said that he and Brown were \u201cvery like-minded<\/a>.\u201d With Hudak\u2019s extreme views exposed, will Brown stand by his endorsement<\/a> of this birther, whom he claims will help \u201cbring the voice of the people [to] Washington?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yesterday, ThinkProgress noted<\/a> that Senator-elect Scott Brown (R-MA) had endorsed a Republican congressional candidate, Bill Hudak, who told a newspaper in 2008 that President Obama \u201cwas not born in the United States but in Kenya<\/a>.\u201d Brown\u2019s staff tried to distance him from Hudak yesterday by saying that Brown didn\u2019t approve the endorsement \u201cpress release before its release or the quote that was attributed to Scott.\u201d But in an interview with the Gloucester Daily Times today, Hudak said that he and Brown \u201care really close\u201d and that \u201cthere\u2019s no question\u201d that Brown gave him \u201chis endorsement.\u201d Hudak also denied that he was ever<\/em> a birther<\/a>: <\/p>\n

Regarding the November 2008 article, Hudak said he does believe the president is a U.S. citizen.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no basis that I\u2019ve been able to find\u201d that calls Obama\u2019s citizenship into question, he said. \u201cNo matter what people think, he is the president of the United States. You don\u2019t get to that level without being fully vetted.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n
