Think Progress \u00bb GOP Gone Wild: Unruly Republicans Silence Women Lawmakers With Screams, Shouts, And Delay Tactics<\/a><\/p>\n

This morning, the House began consideration of the rule for debate of the House health care bill. As the Democratic Women\u2019s Caucus<\/a> took to the microphone on the House floor to offer their arguments for how the bill would benefit women, House Republicans \u2014 led by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) \u2014 repeatedly talked over, screamed, and shouted objections. \u201cI object, I object, I object, I object, I object,\u201d Price interjected as Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) tried to hold the floor.<\/p>\n

In an effort to delay and derail<\/a> the proceedings, the Republicans continually talked over the Democratic women for half an hour. They sought to prevent the debate by calling for unnecessary \u201cparliamentary inquiries\u201d and requests for \u201cexpanding the debate\u201d by an hour.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When the other guest on the program, DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas<\/a>, started laughing, Tancredo replied, \u201cYou\u2019re laughing, but talk to the veterans. They talk to me, and that\u2019s why they said.\u201d Markos then informed Tancredo that he actually is<\/em> a veteran, adding, \u201cI did not get a deferment because I was too depressed to fight in a war that I supported in Vietnam. I\u2019m a veteran, Tom.\u201d Tancredo became incensed at Markos, calling his comment \u201cstupid\u201d and demanding that he apologize. When he didn\u2019t, Tancredo stormed off the set<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> <\/p>\n

As Markos noted, Tancredo was eligible to serve in Vietnam and was a supporter of the war, but received a deferment after \u201che went for his physical, telling doctors <\/p>\n

he\u2019d been treated for depression<\/a>.\u201d After Tancredo left, Markos went on to say that Republicans are \u201cterrified of government programs that work\u201d because it threatens the myths they have built up<\/u><\/strong>. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
