John McCain (R-AZ), blatantly distorted Sen. Barack Obama\u2019s (D-IL) tax proposals. When Fox\u2019s Martha MacCallum noted that Obama says he wants to \u201cput money back in people\u2019s pockets and give them tax cuts,\u201d Fiorina claimed that Obama has \u201cnot proposed one single tax cut\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Fiorina\u2019s assertion is flagrantly wrong and disingenuous. In fact, Obama prominently touts his plan to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/issues\/economy\/\">cut income taxes<\/a> by $1,000 for working families\u201d on his website: <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"obama-tax-cut.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/wp-content\/mine\/2008\/06\/obama-tax-cut.jpg\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Obama even touted his tax cut plan in a widely covered speech yesterday, saying that it would \u201cprovide $1,000 of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/06\/09\/us\/politics\/09transcript-obama.html?pagewanted=5&amp;_r=1&amp;adxnnl=1&amp;ref=politics&amp;adxnnlx=1213128109-uPWgt1pzp32gieigJNY4uA\">relief to 95%<\/a> of workers and their families.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In the same segment, Fiorina claimed that her boss, John McCain, \u201chas been very explicit about the taxes he will cut.\u201d But she neglected to mention that McCain is <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/04\/20\/mccain-earmark-abc\/\">far from explicit<\/a> in explaining how he\u2019ll pay for <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/wonkroom\/2008\/05\/15\/mccain-deficit\/\">massive deficits<\/a> created by his tax proposals. In fact, he <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/04\/20\/mccain-earmark-abc\/\">refuses to name<\/a> a single program he\u2019ll cut.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruralvotes.com\/thebackforty\/?p=100\">The Back Forty \u00bb McCain Adviser Stays Classy &#8211; Lies with a Smile<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Think Progress &raquo; McCain denies his record of supporting Social Security privatization.\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/06\/13\/mccain-denies-his-record-of-supporting-social-security-privatization\/\">Think Progress \u00bb McCain denies his record of supporting Social Security privatization.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>During his town hall event in New Hampshire yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) got into a verbal back and forth with a voter over his support for Social Security privatization. McCain told the man, \u201cI\u2019m not for, quote, privatizing Social Security. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nashuatelegraph.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080613\/NEWS01\/252373021\/-1\/news\">I never have been<\/a>. I never will be.\u201d Watch it:  <\/p>\n<p>But McCain\u2019s record begs to differ:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; \u201c<strong>Without privatization<\/strong>, I don\u2019t see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits.\u201d [C-Span Road to the White House, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberaloasis.com\/2008\/03\/mccain_backs_social_security_p.php\">11\/18\/2004<\/a>]  <\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u201cAs part of Social Security reform, I believe that private savings accounts are a part of it \u2014 <strong>along the lines that President Bush proposed<\/strong>.\u201d [Wall Street Journal, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article_print\/SB120451614688707083.html\">3\/3\/2008<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not only was McCain \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbn.com\/cbnnews\/Wire\/050322f.aspx\">a big booster<\/a>\u201d of Bush\u2019s 2005 plan to privatize Social Security, but one of his top economic advisers, Carly Fiorina, recently told conservative radio host Bill Bennett that McCain \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/04\/17\/mccain-social-security\/\">supports private accounts<\/a> as one of the ways to reform the system\u201d and that \u201che will continue to be supportive of those.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2008\/06\/13\/mccain-denies-his-record-of-supporting-social-security-privatization\/\">Think Progress \u00bb McCain denies his record of supporting Social Security privatization.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Think Progress &raquo; Sen. Martinez Calls Out Dick Cheney\u2019s Lie On Oil Drilling Off Coast Of Cuba<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In a speech before the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Vice President Dick Cheney \u2013 the former CEO of the oil services company Halliburton \u2014 called for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/06\/11\/AR2008061103948.html\">substantial increase in domestic drilling<\/a> for oil and other natural resources.  <\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Cheney claimed that China is pumping for oil off the coast of Florida, noting that \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/cheney-downturn-looms-if-bush-tax-cuts-are-scrapped-2008-06-11.html\">even the Communists<\/a>\u201d understand the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2008\/06\/20080611-6.html\">need for more drilling<\/a>:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s my own view that we should be drilling in ANWR in an environmentally responsible way, which could increase our daily domestic oil production by as much as a million barrels a day. <strong>As for other locations, George Will pointed out in his column the other day that oil is being drilled right now 60 miles off the coast of Florida. But we\u2019re not doing it, the Chinese are, in cooperation with the Cuban government.<\/strong> Even the communists have figured out that a good answer to high prices is more supply.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/mojoblog\/archives\/2008\/06\/8678_gop_claims_chin.html\">Mother Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.speaker.gov\/newsroom\/factcheck?id=0028\">the Gavel<\/a> note that Reps. John Boehner (R-OH) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) have uttered the same talking points. It\u2019s false. And they\u2019re being called out on it by a conservative senator who knows more about the issue than they do.  <\/p>\n<p>Armed with maps and reports, Sen.
