This week, CNN\u2019s Wolf Blitzer discussed the right wing\u2019s tepid support<\/a> of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) with right-wing activist Mary Matalin. Matalin explained that McCain is out of step with the far right on several issues, in particular global warming<\/a>, which many conservatives \u201cloathe\u201d discussing: <\/p>\n

BLITZER: They loathe that? <\/p>\n

MATALIN: Because it\u2019s a largely unscientific hoax. And it\u2019s a political concoction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Watch it: <\/p>\n

Echoing Matalin, former House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX) recently said that \u201cthere is no science<\/a> to suggest that man is the cause of climate change.\u201d These claims are laughable. As Science Magazine noted, in addition to the IPCC and National Academy of Sciences, there is overwhelming agreement<\/a> that the causes of global warming are man-made. <\/p>\n

Matalin observed that \u201cyou haven\u2019t heard [McCain] prioritizing\u201d climate change recently: \u201cWhat you\u2019ve been hearing him say since he\u2019s achieved the nomination\u2026is to prioritize security issues,\u201d which are less controversial on the right. <\/p>\n

Reuters reports that GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz defended his previous remarks dismissing global warming as a \u201c<\/strong>total crock of shit<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/strong> Lutz said his views had no bearing on GM\u2019s commitment to build environmentally-friendly vehicles. He added that those \u201cspewing virtual vitriol\u201d at him for disparaging climate change were \u201cmissing the big picture.\u201d \u201cMy thoughts on what has or hasn\u2019t been the cause of climate change have nothing to do with the decisions I make,\u201d Lutz alleged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
