Birnbaum<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Washington Post Staff Writers <br \/>Saturday, February 23, 2008; Page A01  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Broadcaster Lowell &#8220;Bud&#8221; Paxson yesterday contradicted statements from <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/projects.washingtonpost.com\/congress\/members\/m000303\/\"><strong>Sen. John McCain<\/strong><\/a><strong>&#8216;s presidential campaign<\/strong> that the senator did not meet with Paxson or his lobbyist before sending two controversial letters to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/U.S.+Federal+Communications+Commission?tid=informline\">Federal Communications Commission<\/a> on Paxson&#8217;s behalf.  <\/p>\n<p>Paxson said he talked with McCain in his Washington office several weeks before the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Arizona?tid=informline\">Arizona<\/a> Republican wrote the letters in 1999 to the FCC urging a rapid decision on Paxson&#8217;s quest to acquire a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Pittsburgh?tid=informline\">Pittsburgh<\/a> television station.  <\/p>\n<p>Paxson also recalled that his lobbyist, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Vicki+Iseman?tid=informline\">Vicki Iseman<\/a>, likely attended the meeting in McCain&#8217;s office and that Iseman helped arrange the meeting. <strong>&#8220;Was Vicki there? Probably,&#8221;<\/strong> Paxson said in an interview with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/The+Washington+Post+Company?tid=informline\">The Washington Post<\/a> yesterday. &#8220;The woman was a professional. She was good.
