Eugene Robinson: Republicans deluded by ‘skewed’ polls – The Washington Post

By Eugene Robinson, Published: September 27 The Washington Post

Conservative activist circles are abuzz with a new conspiracy theory: Polls showing President Obama with a growing lead over Mitt Romney are deliberately being skewed by the Liberal Mainstream Media so Republicans will be disheartened and stay home on Election Day.

This is denial and self-delusion but not of the harmless kind. It’s a false narrative that encourages the Republican Party to take the wrong lessons from this election, no matter the outcome. …

“They’re trying to wrap this up before the debates even start because I think they’re worried about the debates,” radio host Rush Limbaugh told his audience. “I think they’re trying to get this election finished and in the can by suppressing your vote and depressing you so that you just don’t think there’s any reason to vote, that it’s hopeless. They want you making other plans.” …

If a polling sample shows Democrats outnumbering Republicans by, say, 32 percent to 24 percent (with most of the rest calling themselves independents), GOP partisans shouldn’t worry about a conspiracy. They should worry that this is a snapshot of how Americans feel about the two major parties.

It’s not the polls, it’s the policies. Now that’s a reason for Republicans to be depressed.

The gasbag Limbaugh accusing Democrats of voter suppression. Ironic much? What a sleazy bastard. He’s near the top of graves I want to piss on someday.

Samuel L Jackson Says, "Wake the F*** Up!" – word!

Samuel L Jackson Says, "Wake the F*** Up!"

If you live in a swing state as I do, you’re probably already sick of being inundated with massive political ads. This one, however, is just a little different. Here, Actor Samuel L Jackson uses a now-infamous children’s book as a premise for a short piece urging voters to Wake Up and realize what Obama stands for, and what we risk with a Romney presidency.

Warning! Not for the kids, or sensitive constitutions. The language is not bleeped. [follow the link]

The linked version actually bleeps all the obscenities that are part of the Republican platform.

Voter fraud is an issue that isn’t – Eugene Robinson

Exercise your right to vote!

I wish there were a way to assuage the fears of those who really believe voter fraud is a problem without making voting more difficult. (The scoundrels are those who raise this “concern” solely to suppress the vote.)

“But you need an ID to do a lot of things, like board a plane,” advocates say. Unlike commercial air travel, however, voting is a constitutionally protected right. To infringe or abridge that right — for no demonstrable reason — should be considered a crime against democracy. …

Minorities, poor people and seniors are less likely than other Americans to have government-issued identification such as a driver’s license — and more likely, for various reasons, to have difficulty obtaining an acceptable ID. They might live far from the nearest motor vehicles department office, for example, and lack transportation. In the case of some older African Americans born in the South under Jim Crow segregation, they might not even have a proper birth certificate of the kind needed to obtain a driver’s license or state ID card. …

The problem in this country isn’t too many people voting, it’s too few. We should be making it easier for people to vote, not harder, and we shouldn’t be imposing requirements that have the same effect as a poll tax.

In New Mexico, elderly Navajos are particularly unlikely to have IDs.

“I don’t know why [airplane windows don’t open]. It’s a real problem.” — Romney channels DUHbya

“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly,” he told the LA Times. “And you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem.”

Air crafts do not open windows because the cabins are pressurized to fly safely at an altitude of tens of thousand feet. Opening a window in an airplane would seriously sicken the passengers and crew.

Fourth poll this week gives Elizabeth Warren lead — good news!

We need Warren in the Senate, not just because she’s a Dem but as a real progressive and a woman. But, take nothing for granted: VOTE and get everyone else to vote.

Fourth poll this week gives Elizabeth Warren lead

Yet another poll confirms: Massachusetts senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D) has bounced back.

WBUR in Boston finds Warren ahead of Republican incumbent Scott Brown 45 percent to 40 percent, just outside the margin of error. Three polls released earlier this week — from Suffolk University, Western New England University, and Public Policy Polling — gave her the edge.

According to WBUR, voters increasingly believe that Warren “will stand up for regular people when in the Senate” and “understands the needs of middle-class families.” While Brown wins independents by 14 points and 15 percent of Democrats are willing to vote for him, that isn’t enough to erase Warren’s advantage in the overwhelmingly Democratic state. His support among President Obama voters is weakening as they coalesce behind Warren.
