near Tingley Beach
in one of two artificial ponds near the river 2/23/11. Note the extremely long toenails.

merlin (falcon)
A merlin was sighted frequently in our neighborhood between November and mid-February. This photo may have been the last time I saw one, a month ago. www.flickr.com/photos/mjhinton/tags/merlins/

curve-billed thrasher in cholla
a pair is nesting in cholla in our neighborhood. In Spring, they have a beautiful song. (Mockingbird family.)

one thoughtful bird
Although I miss the blue jays I grew up with, scrub jays are as interesting. When I put out a bowl of peanuts (in the shell), 3 to 5 jays appear within a minute and quickly empty the bowl. They don't eat most of the peanuts. Instead, they hide them around the yard. Luke the dog finds most of those.

coyote and mallards
On the west side of the Rio Grande. Seen from the east side, hiking the Aldo Leopold trail in Albuquerque, NM. Great trail from the Rio Grande Nature Center almost to Montaño Bridge. The first part of the trail is paved; most is sandy soil, running close to the river.

Digital Cameras & Photography for Dummies 2nd edition book cover
I apologize for the commercial, but I'm so happy to finally have the book in my hands. Ironically, the cover photo isn't mine, but the book is full of my pix, many of which are here on Flickr, as well as pictures by my wife, Merri Rudd. See www.mjhinton.com/help/?p=956 if it interests you and forgive me if it doesn't. peace, mjh
