47% is not a majority. The loser “won.” That’s why we’re mad.

Poor David Koch

It occurs to me that David Koch died knowing he’d failed terribly. Yes, he used his wealth to push candidates and causes Progressives couldn’t abide. (Often through the cowardly use of “dark money.”) However, recall that Koch was not a Conservative Republican — Koch was a libertarian. (Note that “extreme” is always redundant with “libertarian” and it should never be capitalized because you don’t have any right to tell me otherwise.) Name a politically-successful libertarian. Justin Amash? He failed to save the GOP. Gary “Big J” Johnson? He helped elect Trump.

Koch must have hated Trump and he must have been furious that the unprincipled charlatan succeeded where Koch failed: in transforming the Republican party. Pity poor David Koch, whose vast wealth could not achieve his greatest dreams nor keep him from Death. (Perhaps, he took comfort in seeing the Federal government weakened and corrupted, though the empty bathtub costs more than ever.)

I am not a patriot

I am not a patriot.

I’m a good citizen. I vote thoughtfully. I willingly pay taxes for the common good.

I’m a good neighbor. I maintain my property and my distance, but try to greet everyone I meet.

I am not a patriot. To me, patriotism is the happy mask of nationalism. We’re number one! We’re the best! We’re the greatest! It takes no effort to append “and they are the worst and must be destroyed!” More money for defense (war).

Don’t get me wrong. I know there are good people who are proud of their country. Just as there are good people who believe in a book and a god I do not believe in. I don’t want those people running my life or my nation.

I just want you to know there are good people who are not proud of their country. In my 63 years, I’ve been proud to be an American twice — the two times Barrack Obama was elected president by an overwhelming majority ready for a better nation.

I could write these same sentiments any year. My anti-patriotism has little to do with the angry, fearful, shrinking minority that has seized the nation for the rich, the male, and the white.

There is no nation I’d rather live in. Nationalism is a problem wherever you find it. America is good, especially in its potential and its formal goals, which we have yet to achieve. I’m happy to be here, but I will not salute the flag, I will not stand for the anthem, I will not support corrupt politicians or poisonous ideologies. That’s my patriotism. Enjoy your 4th, your fireworks, your war machinery. Tomorrow, resist the forces that will undo all our benefits and freedoms.

You Voted For Trump: How Do You Like Him Now?

Ben Mallicote posted on Facebook 2/3/2017:

You voted for Trump because Clinton was going to be in Wall Street’s pocket. Trump wants to repeal Dodd-Frank and eliminate the Fiduciary Rule, letting Wall Street return to its pre-2008 ways.

You voted for Trump because of Clinton’s emails. The Trump administration is running its own private email server.

You voted for Trump because you thought the Clinton Foundation was ‘pay for play.” Trump has refused to wall Off his businesses from his administration, and personally profits from payments from foreign governments.

You voted for Trump because Of Clinton’s role in Benghazi. Trump ordered the Yemen raid without adequate intel, and tweeted about “FAKE NEWS” while Americans died as a result of his carelessness.

You voted for Trump because Clinton didn’t care about “the little guy.” Trump’s cabinet is full of billionaires, and he took away your health insurance so he could give them a multi-million-dollar tax break.

You voted for Trump because he was going to build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. American consumers will pay for the wall via import tariffs.

You voted for Trump because Clinton was going to get us into a war. Trump has provoked our enemies, alienated our allies, and given ISIS a decade’s worth of recruiting material.

You voted for Trump because Clinton didn’t have the stamina to do the job. Trump hung up on the Australian Prime Minister during a 5pm phone call because was at the end Of a long day and he was tired and fatigue was setting in.”

You voted for Trump because foreign leaders wouldn’t “respect” Clinton. Foreign leaders, both friendly and hostile, are openly mocking Trump.

You voted for Trump because Clinton lies and “he tells it like it is.” Trump and his administration lie with a regularity and brazenness that can only be described as shocking. Let’s be honest about what really happened.

The reality is that You voted for Trump because you got conned. Trump is a grifter and the American people were the mark. Now that you know the score, quit insisting the con-man is on your side.

Did we really elect Donald Trump?

by Kathleen Parker, WaPo

For the undecided (or the unpersuadable), let’s pose a hypothetical: What if Clinton had publicly asked Russia to hack Trump’s records and release his tax returns — and Russia did? And what if the FBI announced less than two weeks before Election Day that it was going to investigate fraudulent practices at Trump University? Let’s say that Trump’s number dipped dramatically and he lost.

Do you reckon Republicans would be a tad upset?

Election Facts to Keep Handy for Thanksgiving Dinner Discussion – The New York Times By KEVIN QUEALY

  1. Hillary Clinton definitely won the popular vote, and that lead is only going to grow.
  2. Turnout in the 2016 election was not low. It is about the same as it was in 2012 and comparable to most 20th-century presidential elections.
  3. Yes, the polls were off, but not in extraordinary ways.
  4. Third-party candidates, like Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, may have cost Mrs. Clinton Michigan, but they almost certainly did not cost her the presidency.
  5. Exit polls are useful, but don’t give them too much credence.

Trump changes his tune on climate change, jailing Clinton – AP

President-elect Donald Trump changed his tune on several topics — among them climate change and prosecuting Hillary Clinton — in statements Tuesday to The New York Times and on Twitter. What he’s said in the past and what he’s saying now:

1. CLIMATE CHANGE

Then: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” — 2012 tweet. “Global warming is an expensive hoax!” — January 2014 tweet.

Now: “I think there is some connectivity. Some, something. It depends on how much.” — On the link between human activity and climate change. “I’m looking at it very closely. I have an open mind to it.” — On whether he will withdraw from climate change accords.

2. PROSECUTING CLINTON

Then: “If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception.” — Oct. 9 debate.

Now: “It’s just not something that I feel very strongly about. … I think it would be very, very divisive for the country.” — On pursuing criminal charges against the Clintons.

3. BEN CARSON

Then: Citing anecdotes about violent behavior in Carson’s memoir, Trump compares him to a child molester. “It’s in the book that he’s got a pathological temper. … That’s a big problem because you don’t cure that … as an example: child molesting. You don’t cure these people.” — Nov. 12, 2015, CNN interview.

Now: “I am seriously considering Dr. Ben Carson as the head of HUD. I’ve gotten to know him well — he’s a greatly talented person who loves people!” — Nov. 22 tweet.

4. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

Then: “He will go down as one of the worst presidents in the history of our country.” — July 27 interview with NBC.

Now: Recalling their Oval Office meeting, “I really liked him a lot.”

5. LIBEL LAWS

Then: “We ought to open up the libel laws, and I’m going to do that.” — Feb. 27 interview on Fox News.

Now: Says someone told him, “You know, you might be sued a lot more.” ”I said, ‘You know, I hadn’t thought of that.'”

6. THE NEW YORK TIMES

Then: “No paper is more corrupt than the failing New York Times. The good news is it is failing, it won’t be around too much longer. But they are really, really bad people.” — Oct. 14 rally.

Now: “I have great respect for the New York Times. I have tremendous respect.” But he adds: “I think I’ve been treated very rough.”
